English Composition
Adjunct Faculty Position
Zaytuna College is inviting applicants for an adjunct Lecturer position in English Composition for the academic year 2010-2011. Review of applications will begin June 2010 and continue until position is filled.
Primary Responsibilities
- The selected lecturer will teach developmental and college-level courses in reading and academic skills, including study skills, critical thinking and student success strategies. The position will teach first and second-year college level English courses with a focus on composition. In addition to teaching undergraduate lower level English composition courses, the candidate will coordinate with the Academic Affairs Committee on measuring student success objectives and the development of college-wide composition standards.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 1) Knowledge of subject matter and course content of composition courses 2) Knowledge of instructional strategies and techniques 3) Ability to manage, motivate and evaluate students 4) Effective communication skills.
Job Qualifications
- An earned master's or doctoral degree in English with work in English/rhetoric/composition; evidence of experience teaching freshman and college-level composition as well as readiness to work with an ethnically and religiously diverse student population and the ability to utilize translated texts from non-Western languages.
